The Agricultural Society of Nigeria (ASN) announces her 58th Annual Conference and General Business Meeting. The Annual Conference presents an avenue for harvesting of academic/research outputs by her members and other members of the academia, industry and business community. The theme for this year’s conference is:
Sustainable Strategies towards Renewed Hope for Food Security and Job Creation in Nigeria
The theme is guided by the overarching vision of the federal government’s Renewed Hope agenda, which seeks to transform Nigeria into a nation where every citizen enjoys access to essential resources and opportunities for economic advancement. In alignment with this agenda, our conference aims to address two critical pillars: food security and job creation. These pillars are not only interconnected but also fundamental to the well-being and prosperity of our nation. Therefore, it is imperative that we explore sustainable strategies that not only alleviate food insecurity but also stimulate economic growth through the creation of employment.
Subthemes:
1. Agricultural Innovation and Technology:
– Harnessing innovative agricultural practices and technological advancements to increase productivity, improve crop yields, and enhance food security.
– Exploring the role of precision agriculture, digitalization, and biotechnology in optimizing farming processes and mitigating environmental challenges.
2. Sustainable Food Systems:
– Promoting sustainable agricultural practices, including agroecology and organic farming, to ensure long-term food security while safeguarding natural resources.
– Addressing issues of food waste, post-harvest losses, and supply chain inefficiencies to create a more resilient and equitable food system.
3. Entrepreneurship and Value Addition:
– Empowering smallholder farmers and rural entrepreneurs through capacity building, access to finance, and market linkages to enhance their role in food production and value addition.
– Fostering entrepreneurship and innovation in the agri-food sector to create employment opportunities along the entire value chain, from production to processing and distribution.
4. Policy and Governance:
– Strengthening policy frameworks and governance structures to support sustainable agriculture, agribusiness development, and rural transformation.
– Enhancing collaboration between government agencies, private sector stakeholders, and civil society organizations to ensure effective implementation of food security and employment generation initiatives.
5. Youth Engagement and Empowerment:
– Engaging and empowering youth in agriculture and agribusiness by providing training, mentorship, and access to resources to harness their potential as drivers of innovation and change.
– Creating conducive environments for youth-led enterprises and startups to thrive, thereby fostering inclusive growth and reducing unemployment rates among young Nigerians.
